PENGGUNAAN INTERNET DAN KATEGORI SOSIAL PENGGUNANYA

ABSTRACT
Based on internet media usage in relationship with society difference, this research focused on two things, first, internet usage pattern of society and internet usage description according to individual difference (social category). By surveying 373 respondents member of PNPM or national program for community empowerment in Makassar, this study showed that community was varied on the basis of their social category e.g. sex; age in MDGs category; education, job, faith and income. Their pattern in internet use tended to show the relationship with their social category. Statistic test regarding relationship among variables showed a significant results, e.g. relationship between internet usage activities with job; internet usage activities with income and internet usage activities with job.

Berlatarbelakangkan fenomena penggunaan media internet dalam kaitan faktor perbedaan individual anggota masyarakat, penelitian ini memfokuskan permasalahannya pada dua hal, pertama menyangkut pola penggunaan internet anggota masyarakat dan kedua terkait gambaran pengguna internet dilihat dari segi perbedaan individu (kategori sosial). Dengan men-survey 373 responden anggota komunitas PNPM di Kota Makassar, penelitian ini memperlihatkan anggota komunitas itu bervariasi dari segi kategori sosial seperti sex; usia dalam kategori MDGs; pendidikan; pekerjaan; agama dan pendapatan. Pola mereka dalam menggunakan internet, maka ini pun cenderung menunjukkan adanya kaitan dengan persoalan perbedaan kategori sosial yang mereka sandang. Dari hasil uji statistik menyangkut keterkaitan antara sejumlah variabel, hasilnya memang menunjukkan hasil yang signifikan. Keterkaitan itu misalnya antara Aktifitas Menggunakan Internet dengan Pekerjaan; Aktifitas Menggunakan Internet dengan Pendapatan dan antara Aktifitas Menggunakan Internet dengan jenis Pekerjaan.
