PENGGUNAAN INTERNET PADA MASYARAKAT PERKOTAAN (Survai Aktifitas Komunikasi Masyarakat Kelurahan Karombasan Utara, Kecamatan Wanea, Kota Manado melalui Medium Internet

Abstract
Beckground of this research is that internet use among urban peoples is better than rural people’s one.This study focuses on urban people’s internet usage. By referring to uses and gratification theory introduced by Katz, Blumler and Gurevitch and Levy’s concept of activities in operationalization of variableuse, and by survey technique, this study indicates that regarding activity phenomenon of “before”, their internet use motives are :information seeking; entertainment; playing games; workingand killing time. Generally, dominant motives are: information seeking; entertainment; playing games; working. In the actvity of “during”, research finds that respondents need time between 1–5 hours in every access for entertainment,1–5 hours for playing game, < 1 hours untill 11-15 hours to work. Many respondents use internet at home and places where they work. They use internet at home three time more than other places. There are 17 contentsthey access. Those contents have been accessed but most of them do never. Respondents tend to access social media. They access 2-4 times within a week for the last six months.

ABSTRAK
Berlatarbelakangkan indikasi masyarakat perkotaan lebih baik akses internetnya dari pada masyarakat pedesaan, penelitian fokus pada masalah penggunaan internet masyarakat perkotaan. Mengacu konsep uses dalam model teori Uses and Gratification dari Katz, Blumler dan Gurevitch dan konsep aktifitas dari Levy dalam mengoperasionalkan variabel penggunaan, hasil penelitian dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data survai menunjukkan bahwa terkait fenomena aktifitas “sebelum”, motif mereka menggunakan internet yaitu ; Cari Informasi; Hiburan; Bermain game; Bekerja dan Mengisi Waktu Senggang. Umumnya responden menonjol pada motif : Cari Informasi; Hiburan; main game; dan bekerja. Dalam hubungan aktifitas “selama”, temuan menunjukkan durasi waktu yang dihabiskan responden bermotif hiburan kebanyakan 1–5 jam per akses. Responden bermotif main game, kebanyakan 1–5 jam. Responden bermotif kerja, kebanyakan menghabiskan antara < 1 jam hingga 11 - 15 jam. Responden lebih banyak menggunakan internet di rumah dan di tempat kerja. Pengakses internet 3 kali seminggu di rumah relatif lebih banyak dari pada kelompok pengakses lainnya. Terdapat 17 ragam konten internet yang diakses. Umumnya ragam konten ini sudah diakses namun demikian bagian terbesarnya mengaku tidak pernah mengakses ragam konten itu. Media sosial menjadi konten yang cenderung banyak diakses dan mereka lebih banyak mengaksesnya 2 kali-4 kali dalam seminggu selama enam bulan terakhir.
