Perilaku Pencarian Informasi Mahasiswa Pascasarjana Universitas Gadjah Mada di Era Search Engine

Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perilaku di kalangan mahasiswa dalam pencarian informasi yang terus berubah ditinjau dari segi sumber informasi yang sering dikunjungi, media yang digunakan, dan sistem akses yang dilakukan. Dari penelitian ini diharapkan para pustakawan atau profesional informasi memahami produk jasa layanan informasi yang tepat. Data diperoleh dari kuesioner yang dibagikan kepada 70 mahasiswa S2 dan S3 Pascasarjana UGM sebagai subjek penelitian. Data mentah diolah menggunakan SPSS versi 17, kemudian Dianalisis, didideskripsikan, dan dibuat kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa untuk menyelesaikan problematika informasinya mahasiswa memilih mengunjungi perpustakaan, tetapi langsung menuju mesin pencari (search engine) untuk mendapatkan informasi yang relevan melalui media online. Sebagian responden mengemukakan bahwa media online lebih memuaskan dan search engine memberikan hasil-hasil riset yang mutakhir. Simpulan dari penelitian ini, telah terjadi perubahan besar dalam perilaku pencarian informasi di kalangan mahasiswa pascasarjana dari paradigma cetak ke media online. Oleh karenanya, pengelola perpustakaan diharapkan dapat mengikuti kecenderungan tersebut agar tetap diperhitungkan perannya.
